Training Title: The West Valley and the Earthquake Impacts in Greater Metro Manila Area
Purpose of Training:
“The West Valley Fault is a major geological feature that runs through the densely populated Greater Metro Manila Area (GMMA) in the Philippines. This fault poses a significant seismic threat due to its potential to generate powerful earthquakes. Understanding the West Valley Fault and its potential impacts is crucial for disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies.
The training aims to equip Local Government Units (LGUs) with a comprehensive understanding of the West Valley Fault’s potential earthquake impacts on Greater Metro Manila. It will cover initiatives and technologies for assessing and mitigating structural impacts and introduce the Rapid Visual Inspection App for digitalizing infrastructure audits for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM).
Objectives:
• Explain the geological characteristics of the West Valley Fault.
• Evaluate the potential magnitude and frequency of earthquakes associated with the West Valley Fault.
• Identify areas within the Greater Metro Manila Area that are most vulnerable to seismic activity.
• Encourage community involvement and awareness programs to foster a culture of safety and resilience.
• Highlight the advantages of digitalizing infrastructure audits, including efficiency, accuracy, and real-time data accessibility.
• Discuss the integration of the app with existing DRRM strategies and its potential to enhance disaster preparedness and response efforts.
• Educate participants on the functionality and features of the Rapid Visual Inspection App.
